Climate: upcoming signature of an EU-Morocco Green Partnership

Morocco and the European Union (EU) will soon sign a Green Partnership, the first of its kind concluded by the EU with a country in its southern neighborhood, with the aim of strengthening the fight against climate change and promote the green transition.

The announcement was made in a joint statement issued on Friday following a meeting in New York between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Vice- President of the European Commission, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The discussions between the two parties “focused on bilateral relations and the reciprocal desire to deepen dialogue and cooperation, within the framework of the strategic partnership between the European Union and Morocco”.

MM. Bourita and Borrell particularly welcomed the upcoming signing of the EU-Morocco Green Partnership which “will pave the way for enhanced cooperation and strategic dialogue in the field of the fight against climate change and will facilitate joint efforts towards the green transition. “.

While recalling “the historical depth” of the relationship between Morocco and the EU, as well as its strategic nature, the two parties reaffirmed their desire to “continue to work together to respond to global challenges”. They agreed to “find an early date for a visit by the High Representative to Morocco,” the joint statement said.
