The maritime fishing sector in the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun has significant potential capable of making it a lever for the development of the region, indicated, Wednesday in Tan-Tan, the director of the National Federation of industries for processing and adding value to fishery products (FENIP), Lamia Znagui.
Ms. Znagui, who was speaking at a conference on “the promotion of seafood products”, organized as part of the 4th Franco-Moroccan meetings on development actions at work in the southern provinces, initiated by the France Foundation -Morocco peace and sustainable development in partnership with the Ribat Al Fath Association and the wilaya of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, explained that the fishing sector plays an essential role in development, given the significant potential it abounds and the opportunities it offers.
The sector represents significant fisheries wealth, the exploitation of which requires modern production techniques, through the adoption of renewable energies and the reduction of production costs, she stressed in a statement to MAP.
Noting that several fishery products are exported abroad where they are transformed into high value-added products, Ms. Znagui noted that the transformation and valorization of these products require concerted efforts and joint action by the public and private sectors.
During this meeting, supervised by the President of the France-Morocco Peace and Sustainable Development Foundation, Hubert Seillan, Ms. Znagui gave a presentation on the processing industries and enhancement of seafood products, in which she highlighted before the potential of the national maritime fishing sector and the new opportunities and prospects for its development.
For his part, the dean of the Faculty of Science in Tetouan, Abdellatif Moukrim, highlighted the opportunities offered for the development and promotion of fishery products, in particular by establishing partnerships with economic players, in particular French, because, he explained, the sector has potential that could serve as a basis for setting up partnerships, through the France-Morocco Peace and Sustainable Development Foundation, in order to launch projects at the level of the region.
In a similar statement, Mr Moukrim insisted on the need to make the maritime fishing sector one of the priorities in all regional development programmes.
