The Blind Football Atlas Lions took an option for qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and the next World Cup (from August 18 to 27, 2023 in Birmingham, England), by signing a brilliant course during the 5th African Cup of Nations (CAN) for blind football organized from September 17 to 23 in El Mansouria.
Morocco, favorite to qualify for these two major events, won two consecutive matches against Egypt (4-0) and Mali (3-0).
Thanks to these two victories, the national blind football team is in first place with 6 points, ahead of Nigeria (3 pts), Côte d’Ivoire (3 pts), Mali (0 pts) and Egypt (0 dots).
The blind football CAN, organized for the first time in Morocco, pits these five teams against each other, two of which will have to compete in the final phase, to try to win the qualifying ticket for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Morocco faces Nigeria on Wednesday in matchday 3 before facing Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday.
The Moroccan blind football team, holder of 4 CAN titles, also won bronze at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
