Marrakech: Seven new cases of the Omicron variant detected among repatriated Moroccans

Since the appearance of the new variant of Covid-19 in Morocco on December 14, contaminations have increased. Mustapha Baitas, government spokesperson, during the weekly press briefing, indicated that 112 suspected cases of the Omicron variant are registered in Morocco until Thursday, December 23. It should also be noted that the repatriated Moroccans do two PCR tests at the airport: the first to detect the presence or not of the virus and the second to determine the mutant (through genomic sequencing), if the result is positive the confirmed cases are taken directly to hospital for a week. These people who have just returned to the national territory are all confined in hotel establishments, which they fear to see transforming into clusters in the event of an extension of the duration of the isolation.

Repatriated Moroccans, as a reminder, are isolated in establishments in several Moroccan cities such as Fez, Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir or Tangier for a week or more.
