We can easily say that the countdown has begun. Although the Qatar 2022 World Cup only starts in two months, the new national coach Walid Regragui has only two possibilities to gauge the level of his team and therefore that of the players in whom he has placed his trust.
These two friendly tests, which will take place in Barcelona and Seville respectively against Chile on September 23 and Paraguay four days later, are therefore of paramount importance.
In order to better prepare for these matches, the Moroccan selection carried out its first training session on Monday evening.
According to a press release from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), all the players summoned by the national coach for these two matches are already present at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, including Noussair Mazraoui, Hakim Ziyech, Soufiane Amrabat and Yassine Bounou who joined the group late.
This training session, dedicated to scrubbing, was devoted to making contact between the players and the technical managers newly appointed among the staff of the national team, adds the same source.
Regragui unveiled last Monday his first list of players selected for the two friendly matches scheduled against Chile and Paraguay.
Marked by the return of Hakim Ziyech and Younes Belhanda, this list of 31 players called up also includes a newcomer to the ranks of the national team, in this case Walid Cheddira who plays for the Italian club Bari (Serie B). It also signs the return to the national team of the former rajaoui, Badr Benoun, who plays for the Qatar SC club, as does Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, on loan from FC Barcelona to Osasuna.
The national coach has therefore chosen to maintain the structure of the national team by making slight modifications. The list also includes five players playing at the Botola Pro D1 and representing the clubs of Wydad and Raja de Casablanca in addition to the Renaissance de Berkane.
In this context, the technical framework Abdelghani El Otmani indicated that the list of the national team has undergone several modifications, but it includes the main pillars, such as Yassine Bounou, Romain Sais, Achraf Hakimi, Soufian Boufal, Soufian Amrabat, Amin Harith, Ayoub Al Kaabi and Azzedine Onahi, while other players have not been called up, like Ayman Barkok and Sofian Chakla.
For his part, coach Redouan El Haimer notes that Walid Regragui has rehabilitated the national championship, by calling on several players from the teams of Wydad and Raja de Casablanca and RS Berkane, who have signed a good course during competitions the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
The national coach had indicated that he had drawn up a list of 31 players to be able to observe as many elements as possible before the World Cup in order to be able to judge their level and determine who deserves to defend the national colors.
