Morocco has made “great progress” in education reform

GThanks to the high royal guidelines, Morocco has made great progress in the process of reforming and improving the education system with a view to operating a real educational renaissance, in line with the ambitions of the UN 2030 agenda. for sustainable development and the strategic objectives of the new development model”, stressed Aziz Akhannouch before the high-level meeting of the UN Summit on the transformation of education, on the sidelines of the 77e UN General Assembly.

In this sense, Morocco has developed a roadmap for the reform of the education system 2022-2026based on broad national consultations and in accordance with a participatory methodology that promotes the contribution of all parties involved in the transformation of education, including teachers, students and their families, he explained.

The Head of Government specified that this roadmap revolves around three main axes, aiming to enable the student to acquire basic skills, to improve the performance of the teacher and his ability to ensure the transformation of education, and to raise the level of the school by the creation of modern and open educational institutions.

This roadmap also aims to achieve three objectives by 2026: reduce the school dropout rate by a third, increase by 70% the number of students who acquire basic skills by improving learning and , and doubling the number of students benefiting from semi-curricular and parallel activities, continued Akhannouch.

The head of government pointed out that in order to meet this challenge and achieve the objectives set, the government wanted to involve all the stakeholders, in accordance with the principles of good governance, while making efforts to mobilize the necessary funding and exploring innovative approaches to support reform and ensure sustainable funding. It is also about concluding partnerships at the bilateral and multilateral level with international partners, he said.

Akhannouch also underlined that in execution of the royal high vision concerning South-South cooperation, Morocco spared no effort to implement promising cooperation projects in the field of education and training with the countries partners, and launch concrete initiatives like King Mohammed VI’s initiative to create “an african institute for lifelong learning”.

While reiterating Morocco’s call for urgent action to achieve the expected education transformation and education finance initiative, Akhannouch reaffirmed the kingdom’s commitment to support the global partnership for the achievement of the goals sustainable development by 2030, particularly within the framework of the high-level commission concerned with SDG-4 on education.
