Tennis legend, Swiss Roger Federer, announced in a press release his retirement at the end of the Laver Cup, a competition which will take place in London from September 23 to 25.

Sad day for the world of tennis. “The Laver Cup next week in London will be my last ATP event,” posted on social media Roger Federer, 41, holder of 20 Grand Slam titles during his long career.

“Of all the gifts tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I have met along the way: my friends, my competitors and above all the fans,” he confided.

“The last three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and operations. I worked hard to get back to full form. But I also know the capabilities and limits of my body, and the message he has sent to me lately has been clear,” continues the tennis legend.

Roger Federer has played more than 1,500 matches in 24 years. “Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever dreamed of, and now I have to recognize when it’s time to end my career,” he explains.
