The Algerian diet, this extraordinary corpus for psychoanalytical studies

The Algerian regime’s senseless hostility to anything Moroccan has been escalated by the junta of crazy old men who are now in charge of the country. To such an extent that the Algerian regime today constitutes an exceptional corpus, which is the subject of a large number of writings pertaining to psychoanalysis.

The incursions of “psychoanalysis” into the field of “international relations” are not shared by a large number of observers and analysts. According to them, it is unfounded to transfer notions such as psychosis, neurosis, obsession, frustration, drive, projection… to other entities such as regimes or States, whereas “psychoanalysis” has as its object the unconscious of the “individual”… a “talking patient” stretched out on a divan and listened to by a psychoanalyst.

However, it must be admitted that the current vocabulary, since the invention of psychoanalysis in 1896, has integrated “concepts” from Freudian thought, and it was not necessary to be a “specialist” to use them. Freudian thought, even if it is often based on “hypotheses”, remains tremendously attractive and has invaded all fields of the human sciences. There is therefore always this choice or this possibility of using the “psychoanalytical reading grid” to try to understand the functioning of entities… behind which there are obviously always “human subjects”.

The concepts of psychoanalysis are therefore not characterized by hermeticity and can interact with other entities or other fields: international relations, politics, sociology, literature, artistic creation, neurosciences…

This reading grid is often used when it is difficult to “understand” the psychological underpinnings of collective phenomena, the motivations for behavior or action.

Today, there are two “subjects” in the international news in the face of which analysts and journalists do not hesitate to mobilize the Freudian conceptual apparatus to interpret them. The case of the invasion of Ukraine by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. And the case of the incredible animosity, the bewildering hostility of the Algerian regime against its Moroccan neighbor. This detestation resists any objective analysis and common sense.

Let us first specify that the countries registered in the “normality” act according to their real interests, clearly identified. They are mainly of an economic, financial or commercial order… Even if a part of selfishness cannot be evacuated. These countries also take into account the balance of power in their environment at all levels.

This lucid approach does not apply to regimes adopting erroneous analyzes and refusing to see the limits of their capacities. Unaware of their real interests, they bet on adventurism while at the same time inflicting suffering on their populations. This does not apply either to illegitimate regimes, inexhaustible producers of slogans. Dictatorships that completely neglect the real needs of the populations and seek only their permanence in power through force, lies and misinformation. Their disappearance is inevitable.

Faced with postures made of false calculations, arrogance and paranoia, analysts are led to seek psychoanalysis to try to understand the springs of the men who are behind these regimes.

Following the now problematic invasion of Ukraine, Vladimir Putin was the subject of hundreds of “psychoanalytical” analyzes published in the Western media. We are not taking a position here for or against Putin’s “decision”. What matters to us is this strong incursion of psychoanalysis to understand facts relating to international relations and geostrategy.

We can quote eloquent headlines in the international media: “I thought Putin was rational, he is in fact paranoid”, “Is Vladimir Putin suffering from hubris syndrome”, “Is Putin crazy?”, “The Tsar and Russia on the couch”, “Putin at Freud”, “How Putin got stuck in a victim vision”, “War in Ukraine: what does psychoanalysis say about the conflict”.

Of course, neither Putin nor his regime were lying on a couch, but a whole set of materials relating to the Russian head of state (his biography, his experience, his language, his analyses, his images, his interpretations… ) have offered a fairly prolific field of study.

As for the Algerian regime, its insane hostility against our country has been aggravated by the junta of crazy old men who are now in charge of the country. All offers of peace, communication, negotiation, dialogue, exchanges, mutual sharing of interests, construction of common projects, mediations… have been rejected by a fanatical regime centered on the hatred of all that is Moroccan. Faced with the unintelligible, several Moroccan analysts have signed texts in which the psychoanalytical grid has been mobilized. The titles are eloquent.

“The Algerian power in the grip of the obsidional fever”… even headlined an Algerian journalist. A French author, among many others, obviously titled his analysis “The Franco-Algerian neurosis”… The French know a whole chapter on the pathology of Algerian power.

Psychosis, neurosis, obsession, frustration… these words keep coming back. The Algerian regime today constitutes an exceptional corpus, and rare on planet Earth, which is the subject of a large number of writings relating to psychoanalysis. The protagonists of this regime have become an ideal subject for this kind of study because they talk too much, are constantly fidgeting, show off in denial of their fragility, are falsely indignant, interfere in what does not look at them, to manage an infinite number of conflicts internally and externally – which they provoke elsewhere.

The Algerian people and their real interests are the last concern of the neurotic power which oppresses them and which is itself traversed by ferocious clan struggles. The only objective of the regime is to stay in place by knowingly maintaining an artificial conflict with Morocco, the useful enemy, and to do everything to weaken it and make it bend, with the support of its Polisarian fad which would not survive. 30 days without the bottle of the junta. The resistance and resilience of the Moroccan people, united around their institutions, have aggravated the psychological distress of the gerontes in power in Algeria.

But since we are in the “psy” field, we must also say a word about this reflex of “mimicry” of the Algerian power which encourages imitation or plagiarism of achievements specific to the Moroccan community, sometimes going as far as insane appropriation of facts of history and socio-cultural facts specific to the Moroccan nation.

It is the symptom of an absence of identity, because as long as the junta does not distance itself from the Moroccan model (hating it or loving it, it’s the same!), it will be unable to federate the people around a common identity. She must leave this zone of confusion with herself and others. The attempt to absorb the substance of a model (even denied and unacknowledged) rarely results in serenity.

Finally, in contrast to this pathology and this state of tension generated and maintained by the junta, Morocco has a clear idea of ​​its interests. That is to say its territorial integrity, its economic development, the prosperity of its people, peaceful relations with its neighbors and the international community.

Our country, sure of its identity, of its place in the world, tolerant, discreet and hard-working is fully invested in its development, like the majority of wise countries in the international community. Therefore, there is no need to resort to Freud, Jung or Mendel to understand the action levers of peaceful countries whose objectives are intelligible, transparent and readable.
